Welcome to the World of IPV6
Welcome to the World of IPV6
Did You know, all our IP address were of the category “IPV4” address so far which allows 32 bits for an IP address, which could create a little more than 4 BILLION IP addresses and as on Wednesday i.e. June, 6th 2012, we ran out of those number of IP addresses too! (Well, almost out of it)
We have now officially entered into the era of IPV6 with a 128 bit IP address which means we now have a little over 340 TRILLION IP address to make use of.
Now the transition for corporations and even daily households will be both, time consuming and a costly affair, but hopefully, it will at the same time also simplify aspects of address assignment across machines. Meanwhile, security issues if any with respect to IPV6 etc are being tested and run across globally before it comes to each and every household.
Here is a simplified way of depicting an IPV4 and an IPV6 (Image Source via Wiki)
