Batman Arkham City Game
Batman Arkham City Game
Ever come across a game that has gained universal acclaim from critics and fans alike? No? Heard of Batman: Arkham Asylum? It has a score of 91 on Metacritic.com. If you scoff at that, you definitely won’t believe that its successor Batman: Arkham City has a score of 96. Does that make you a believer?
What makes a good video game? Today, even games need a solid script akin to a movie. With veteran comic book writer Paul Dini at the helm, you could not have placed a safer bet. He has won quite a few prestigious awards including the Emmy awards for his writing on the Batman series.
Next you need to create the atmosphere. Arkham City takes off from where Arkham Asylum ended.
North Gotham has been walled off and the inmates of Arkham Asylum are waging wars against each other to gain territories. The Joker is still reeling from the effects of the Titan formula he administered to himself in the first game & wants the world’s greatest detective aka “Bat’s” to find a cure for him. So he performs a blood transfusion on the Dark Knight to force him to find a cure, else they both die.
If that wasn’t life threatening as it is, Batman finds out that the mastermind behind setting up Arkham City, a shady character called as Hugo Strange knows his deepest secret, his actual identity of Bruce Wayne. Strange is also gearing up to execute a plan called “Protocol 10” which Batman needs to thwart as well. Add to it the Gang wars taking on the streets of Gotham between super villains like Harvey Two-Face, The Penguin and the Joker with their henchmen patrolling the streets. Did i forget to mention that The Riddler has left a set of riddles & deadly traps for you to solve, failing which he will massacre the hostages that he has captured?
Daunting as the task at hand may sound, The Dark Knight never bows before adversity. He can also count on the help of slinky Catwoman who has her own set of plans to take care of. The trademark WayneTech gadgets makes an appearance from the trusty grappling hook to the upgraded Detective mode. Also a lot of new moves, gadgets and fighting strategies are unlocked as you progress through the game.
While you are busy fighting goons, do take a moment in between fights to marvel at the level of detail of your surroundings. It’s simply, spectacular. The art deco buildings, the graffiti style marking the territory of different gangs, the neon signs reflected on the streets, the snow settling on the various landmarks like the clock-tower & the museum, the broken bridges crisscrossing across the city, the full moon casting its pale light across all the unsavoury elements of Gotham and finally the Bat crouched on a gargoyle observing his beloved city being rampaged by a few anti social elements. Once you soak in this atmosphere, you literally are transported to the streets of Gotham. And I won’t blame you if, say, as you bash the head of a joker thug, you let slip a low growl saying, “I, am Batman”.
Have fun!
