- PELOTON – Main bunch or field of riders
- Bidon – Water bottle
- Maillot jaune – The Yellow jersey worn by the Tour de France leader
- Equipe – Team
- Combativité – Meaning aggression: But the Combativité award goes to the rider who shows the most ‘sporting aggression’s’
- Domestique – These are the cyclists who sacrifice themselves to help their team leaders clinch victory
- Etape – STAGES in the race
- Parcours – ROUTE taken during each race
- Hors categorie – Describes the “toughest climbs” in a mountain stage
- Tete de la course – ‘front of the race’
- Directeur sportif – Team manager who follows the race in a team car and gives strategic orders to riders.

Prize money: Total of around 2 million Euros will be awarded and given out to the teams and the riders, including 450 000 Euros to the winner of the final individual general classification.
Jerseys:
- The Yellow Jersey – worn by the leader of the general individual time classification.
- Prize money: € 450,000 for the overall winner
- The Green Jersey – worn by the leader of the points classification.
- Prize money: € 25,000 for the overall winner
- The Red Polka Dot Jersey – worn by the best climber.
- Prize money: € 25,000 for the overall winner
- The White Jersey – worn by the best young rider aged 25 years old or less in the general individual time classification.
- Prize money: € 20,000 for the overall winner.
The Combativity Award – This distinction is awarded at the end of each stage by a jury made up of cycling specialists. An overall winner is designated after the last stage of Le Tour.
Prize money: € 20,000 for the overall winner
The team classification – This classification is determined by adding the times of the best three
riders of each team in each stage (except for the team time-trial).
Prize money: € 50,000 for the winning team

22 teams in the TdF (18 UCI WorldTour teams and four wild-card teams) with nine riders in each team (198 riders)
Countries visiting TDF this year: England, France, Belgium, Spain.
BIKE weight: Min is 6.8 Kgs

- 6,000 Calories burnt on an average by tour cyclists a day and
- 8,000 calories during mountain rides.
