Google India GdayX Mumbai 2013 went Live in Mumbai’s Vile Parle at BJ Hall & NMIMS on 12/10/2013 and what an amazing event it was!
If last year’s Google India event of 2012 (Click here – Link to read the complete post here) was anything to go by, the expectations this year were simply massive and Google India team (GBG/GDG) was simply fabulous.
This year’s GdayX event was organized by Google’s http://gbgmumbai.org group and they did a fantastic job. (Also a special thanks to the SVKM trust and Harkisan Mehta Institute for supporting this event.)

Highlights from the event:
Android app for Business & Mobile marketing:
Some interesting links, resources to Build your app, market it, get users to download it, promote and make money out of it, but most important of all…. get users to use the app:
– “launchrock” – A great resource to promote the app
– Make sure to build an audience even before the app is launched. Get users to talk about it.
– Android now allows use of videos: Use this rich media to further get a larger reach of your app.
Use sites/apps like Mailbox, orchestratodo, spotify,
App Store optimization:
- Keep your App name short and if possible, try fitting in a keyword
- Don’t use individual names or the app developer’s names, instead use the brand or the app’s name itself
- Category name:Select only the category that’s most relevant to the app
- Work on your Icon – The first impression is the only impression
- Use videos or image Screenshots and keep them high resolution, in a manner that should show the app features clearly
- Include popular keywords in description
- Ratings are extremely important for your app’s popularity

- Did You know there are around 60 trillion individual pages on the internet today!
- Google navigates web by Crawlers meaning they follow links from page to page. This process is what we refer to as CRAWLING!
- Eg they visit a page,takes a snapshot after looking for links and so on……thus keeps discovering web pages: What a “Google Bot” does.
- They are sorted as pages based on type of content i.e. Indexing. (over 100 million gigabytes)
- What are Algorithms? Algorithms are programs that rank results of searches based on relevance
- Taking SEO or search feature and functions to the next level
eg.
- Autocomplete:May be you mean this
- Auto spelling suggestion: This shows it understands your queries
- Suggesting Synonyms
- Spelling or image or location based query
- Based on these clues, google pulls relevant documents ranking them using over hundred’s of factors including based on device you use.
- AND ….. all this happens in 1/8th of a second.
- Anatomy of a snippet:
- Title tag,Url,description (meta or content),Site links to inner pages for quick access.
Increase your website’s visibility:
Follow the Webmaster quality guidelines – https://support.google.com/webmasters/
Power Tip no 1 – Don’t stuff your site or page with keywords
Core 7 visibility tips:
- Make your content is “crawlable”
- Make sure its “indexable” eg Certain flash content might not screened by bots.
- Use sites like Site:domainname.com
- Webmaster tools
- Look good in search results making your content very relevant
- Describe images:describe,alt,caption (prefer using caption & description)
- rich snippets eg ratings
- Expand your presence
- Avoid common pitfalls: Don’t get caught in seo trends, don’t hire rogue seo,watch out for guarantees, create great content for users and rest will follow
