Google + brings updates to mobile apps and web profiles
Google Plus received an update yesterday which brought quite a few changes to its mobile apps on Android and iPhone as well as a few changes to user profiles on the web. Google had taken over Nik Software, makers of the popular Snapseed photo editing suite last September. It was only available for iOS, but an Android version was released soon. Now the Google Plus app on iOS has been incorporated with a few of Snapseeds own filters and enhancements. Users can now crop, rotate, change contrast, saturation and brightness and add filters right from withing the Google Plus app itself. Google also announced the Nik collection from Google which is a pack of six plugins of Photoshop, Lightroom and Aperture available for only 149$.
The Android version has also received a few updates and now the content is more prominent in the stream. It takes fewer taps to reach the root of the content. Just tap on a post and you will be taken to the article. You can swipe through photos in album directly from the stream without having to tap it to open the album. The plus one and reshare buttons are placed more prominently to encourage interaction.
Web profiles can now be used to display your current location to specific circles. In case you allow your phone to access your location data from the settings menu, it will update your profile with your most current location. You can view this by moving your mouse over the “Currently at ..” description in the profile.
Finally Communities on mobile are receiving a few options to adjust the volume of posts in your Home stream, option to invite people to a community, or reshare items with a community among others. Users will also be able to search for other members, moderate content and report-remove-ban support for community managers.
