Using Foursquare, to be more productive, while you travel
If you are someone who travels or even someone who loves to explore, then you must be already using a check-in app or geo-maps etc while on the go.
Have you heard of Foursquare? Well, of course you must have. It has crossed over a billion check-ins by users globally and that too in a short span of time.
And if you already are using this app and have the habit of checking into places on social networking sites using Foursquare (Foursquare is an app which allows you to discover new places and share your geo check-ins with others while on the go) you could be using this app a lot more productively than merely ‘checking-in’.
Did you know, you could actually plan your complete travel, manage your time whilst you create reviews, tips and leave bread crumb trails for your next visit, all using this amazing app of foursquare (FS).
Here are some simple ways to use this amazing app to do more than just ‘check-in’:
Suppose you are traveling to a different city and you know nothing about this new place. First thing you do when you land there, turn on your FS app and start exploring.
Have a look at your foursquare app for nearby “Hotels” or “Lodges”. Check their reviews or ratings and you can pick the place that would suit your travel and proximity requirements for that day from the hotel to your destination points and schedules planned for that day.
You could also look out for places with offers (or FS SPECIALS) available. These specials might be a discount on your lunch, or a free coffee or a refill on the house at the bar etc.
Once you reach the place, just have a quick go at the app and hey, it looks like someone you know (a friend) has also checked in at a hotel near to you. Call him/her up and meet up. It does not feel so lonely anymore in the new town now does it. Well, if this doesn’t happen, do leave a tip or a review for the place or hotel so that your friends or anyone in general know about that place and what to expect when they drop in for the first time.
After your schedule for the day gets done, if you are in a mood to explore for a pizza place nearby, use the “explore” option that lists various restaurants and food courts around you allowing you to make the selection of which mouth watering pizza you would like to sample. At the same time, spending a weekend in a lonely city can be tiresome. So let’s say you want to decide to go clubbing and want to check out the nightlife. Again the “explore” tab comes to the rescue. You can check out user comments and reviews to further evaluate a place and leave your own reviews for friends and other people as well. Who knows, grab a few cool shots of celebrities who are down there swinging with you too.
Now, Monday is back on the calendar and you have got to start your week meeting a client around say noon’ish. Your boss just calls you and says, hey, pick up something nice a memento may be and gift wrap for the client before you meet him today. Again, Foursquare lists nearby gift shops so that you can pick up the perfect gift. You want to schedule the meeting in a classy restaurant. A quick reference to Foursquare helps you to pin point the exact location where you can reach quickly or know that ‘popular landmark’ your client was talking about, without having to call him and ask him, where is this place exactly. So go ahead, be on time and close that business deal.
Now this has been a quick week to start with already, so make sure you leave your trail of bread crumbs on the way with tips, reviews, comments etc. Create your list of things done and to do while on the go with this app. This can be made public for others to make life easy for them while they are coming here for the first time.
Now with the new foursquare app updates happening globally, it’s becoming more social than ever. A radical new look, a totally stylized interface and it’s all screaming of social sharing integration across. Stay tuned with us here for the updates on it too!
This is just an example of what you can do in a single day with Foursquare.
