Flickr introduces hashtags in iOS app

Flickr Hastags

Flickr has updated its app for iOS with the ability to add hashtags to any image. While the website does allow you to add “tags” to any image to allow easier search, these don’t show up as hashtags in the app itself. The web version lets you search for images by clicking on the tags. Whereas the iPhone app will let you add hashtags to any photos from now on. Tapping on a hashtag launches a search for related images which have been uploaded with similar hashtags. These tags can be found below any image.

Flickr Update

There seems to be no other notable change in this update except for the ability to add hashtags. Flickr seems to be trying to catch up with other services like Instagram and Twitter with this new functionality. Also, with smartphones being such powerful tools to click images on the go, it makes sense to add more features to the mobile app. To give users an incentive to use hashtags, Flickr has asked users to participate in their weekly photo challenge with the tag of #FlickrFriday. More details about the challenge can be found here.

It is not known when the Android app will be updated with this feature. Are you a Flickr user? What other features would you like to see in the app? Let us know your views here.
